Keeping Our Employees Safe
We have rigorous programs in place to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all Mylan employees, contractors and visitors. Examples include but are not limited to emergency response, incident prevention, contractor safety, occupational toxicology, industrial hygiene, process safety, EHS training and regulatory compliance.
We cultivate an environment that encourages our people to speak up and play an active role in making workplace safety a priority. Our injury-prevention strategy promotes the identification and correction of potential hazards and the Incident Prevention Opportunity (IPO) Program encourages employees to identify potential hazards and act to correct them as soon as possible. Our Serious and Fatal Incident Prevention (SFIP) Program identifies potential situations that could create a more severe outcome and proactively addresses these conditions with effective controls.
In 2019, we launched new modules for our Safety Culture Program, which includes a new safety culture survey tool, leadership and employee workshops, and continuous improvement tracking for our sites. And our team has disaster preparedness plans and creates programming to further enhance a safety-first mindset. The following are other accomplishments from 2019:
• Received the 2019 National Member of the Year award from the National Safety Council of Australia (Foundation) for our Carole Park facility. The award is presented to an organization that has demonstrated commitment and leadership in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and is a result of the site’s success in raising awareness of best practice WHS within the safety community and making a positive difference to WHS and culture
• Achieved the British Safety Council (BSC) 5-Star Rating at India Unit 8 and Unit 9, bringing our total number of BSC-certified sites to four
• Twelve – or ~27% – of our manufacturing sites are OHSAS 18001 certified for Occupational Health and Safety systems
