Mylan receives Platinum Pledge at USAID event for its work towards Tuberculosis in India

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launched a new initiative designed to help India's corporate sector in the fight against tuberculosis (TB). The initiative supports the Indian government's goal of eliminating TB by 2025, which is five years ahead of the UN's Sustainable Development Goal. At Mylan, we are committed to working with the government to support their TB end game by creating access to patients and awareness around this disease.

The event was aimed at creating a shared platform for corporations committed to ending TB in India and was held in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce in India (AMCHAM India) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). India bears the world’s largest burden of tuberculosis (TB)- an estimated 2.7 million new cases with 220,000 deaths reported annually1. The prevention and control of TB is a challenge at multiple levels, requiring the united efforts of a diverse range of stakeholders.

This TB platform will recognize corporations for their commitment and contributions to ending TB and link them with the resources they need to better plan and implement TB programs. As part of this effort, USAID also launched a “TB Pledge” to encourage the private sector to increase resources to combat TB, raise awareness of TB as a curable disease, and, ultimately, improve TB health outcomes. This pledge contains several tiers (Silver, Gold, Platinum and Dimond), based on a company’s level of commitment to adopt a TB workplace policy, implement TB workplace programs, and fund TB programs through corporate social responsibility resources.

Mylan was awarded the Platinum category for its efforts in:

  • Expanding existing health facilities to public for TB diagnosis
  • Directly observed treatment, short-course (DOTS) - TB control strategy, notification and report data
  • Use of CSR fund money to implement a TB-specific project and report on measurable outcomes

As a platinum member of the TB Pledge, Mylan is committed to undertake sincere efforts to provide leadership in the fight against TB for the betterment of its company, employees, their families, and the community.
