4 Viatris facilities in India receive the coveted 5-star rating in British Safety Council’s Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit.

API Units 8 in Vijayanagram and Unit 9 Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India, & OSD Unit 1 in Nashik and OSD 2 in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, have received the prestigious five-star rating from the recent Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit conducted by the British Safety Council (BSC). This remarkable feat was achieved by OSD 1 and OSD 2 in the very first attempt while API Units 8 and 9 have done it twice in succession.

All four units underwent a comprehensive, quantified and robust evaluation of its occupational health and safety policies, processes and practices, and achieved more than 92% score. The audit process included documentation review, interviews with senior management, employees and other key stakeholders, together with sampling of operational activities. The Five Star Audit process outcome is determined by application of the British Safety Council’s quantified system of evaluation.

British Safety Council audit is a globally recognized and coveted audit across organisations. It is the highest rating that is awarded by British Safety Council to recognize the “best in class” in occupational health and safety management system.

The British Safety Council’s Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit provides organisations with a worldwide benchmark of their safety management systems against current best practice to enable continual improvement. The audit measures performance against recognized Best Practice Indicators (leadership, stakeholder engagement, risk management, organizational health and safety culture and continual improvement), identifies areas of positive/negative practice and provides a structured approach toward continual improvement and best practice status.

The audit model is reflective of the recognized PLAN – DO – CHECK – ACT management cycle.

Achievers of the five-star grading are eligible to enter the British Safety Council’s Sword of Honour Awards which recognize excellence in the management of health and safety. 

The ratings demonstrate Viatris’ commitment to achieving excellence in health and safety standards for employees, clients and other stakeholders. All the audits were conducted by BSC auditor Mr. Steve Readman. The audits were conducted remotely, and the Auditor conducted virtual round of the facilities.

This significant achievement is the result of the immense teamwork and collaboration demonstrated by the teams in these Units.
