Delivering better health to world’s most populous country subdivision – Uttar Pradesh

Mylan is committed to setting new standards in healthcare and providing 7 billion people access to high quality medicine. As part of our ongoing mission, we launched an important project titled UPBEAT to deliver better health to world’s most populous country subdivision – Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh, with a population of around 224 million, is the most populous state in India as well as the most populous country subdivision in the world. The disease burden in the state for Viral Hepatitis is very alarming. As per the latest estimates, around 1.5 million people in state suffer from Chronic Hepatitis C and need treatment but only 1,500 patients get access to treatment. Every year, more than 50,000 new cases are added to the existing burden.

With such high incidences of Viral Hepatitis in the state, Mylan team plans to work on a partnership model to ensure patients get access to treatment and prevention options. The project titled UPBEAT is aimed at providing access to high quality medicine to people in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Through the UPBEAT project, the team will work in 40 cities across the state and collaborate with more than 2000 doctors to cater to the unmet medical needs of the patients in the region. The team will work on training session and workshops to ensure patients (through doctors) have access to information about the disease, means of prevention and treatment options. The objective of the UPBEAT project to ensure that people get access to treatment early and help tackle the growing incidence of Viral Hepatitis in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
